Consciousness can be described as an awareness of an individual in every form of ones life. Neuropsychologists have described that consciousness in terms of sensory awareness while cognitive psychologists would described it as information processing system like a laptop.
Everyday we collect millions of stimuli in the world through senses like the ability to hear and see. These information we get then gets processed within our brains to have understanding of the world and ourselves.
Selective attention is when an individual focuses on one stimulus or a set of stimuli excluding all other things. Our brains gravitate to focus on stimuli that we think is important at that moment.
