From the moment babies are born and even before that parents talk to their young baby although baby doesn’t understand what is being said, usually they will respond to communication from the loved ones. Communicating with babies and young children is vital as they feel acknowledged, loved, their vocabulary expands and encourages good communication skills later in life. Babies enjoy family and loved ones talking to them, calm, soothing voices, songs such as nursery rhymes and games. Most children will start to speak around 12 months but speech is not clear or grammatically correct until later. They start using single words and between 1-2 years old they start putting words together but still with mistakes such as ‘we goed’.
