Mary austin Holley was born in New Haven, Connecticut. She had a rich childhood, attending schools there she studied languages and was a natural musician. Mary was included in many dinners with prominent guests where she offered lively discussion. In 1805, Mary married a man named Horace Holley who studied law and theology. They had a son and a daughter together. In 1827, Horace Holley died of yellow fever and Mary Austin Holley wrote a book about him called called “A Discourse on the Genius and Character of the Reverend Horace Holley” After Mary’s brother, Henry Austin settled into Texas, she talked to him and her cousin
