Perishable product is a big problem for a food manufacturing industry. The short shelf life of perishable products results in a serious challenge for the inventory management system. Inventory management system are having troubles in solving the problem within the scope of perishable products. Sometimes inventory policy makes the management of perishable products much harder. Often does the supplier offers to the firm a wide range of items to meet the consumer demands.
The wide range of products give more chance for the customer choose or substitute their product of choice, but this does not mean that troubles are over. Sometimes this results in a more difficult problem. If consumers substitute their product of choice this will result in a difficult management of stocks, inventory level should be at a balance point to meet the demand to substitution and avoid wastage of products. (Duong et al 2015)
