This was the learning from one of my favorite teacher on the last day of my secondary education. From then I wanted to be a researcher because I believe, new knowledge and findings are being discovered and created only through research. A doctoral degree could help me to be expert in finding, evaluating and determine the research problem which is mandatory to become an organize and successful researcher. A Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutical science also give me an opportunity to develop a new convenient therapeutic approach to fight against the apparently deadly diseases. My research interest includes delivery and formulation of drug and biologics, radiopharmaceuticals, cancer biology, immunotherapeutic, pharmacology, and toxicology. I strongly believe that this program will provide me perfect academic and research background for fulfilling my goal to become a researcher to invent and develop for efficient drug and drug delivery pathway.

I graduated from the University of Dhaka, which is considered to be the best university in Bangladesh for pharmaceutical education, with a bachelor degree in pharmacy. My graduate studies provided me with a strong background. During my undergraduate studies, I was exposed to pharmaceutics, biotechnology, pharmacology, microbiology, physical pharmacy, inorganic and organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, physiology, and basic anatomy which strengthened my background in pharmaceutical science. This strong foundation in these core subjects have provided a commendable groundwork for my advanced studies and honed my laboratory skill, which has further influenced me to take a deep interest in the research study. As a result, I always try to get involved in research projects. But there was no credit in research in my undergraduate study.

However, my deep interest to do research work made me pursue involvement in different areas from my junior year. In phytochemistry lab, I extracted phytoconstituents of Begonia barbara leaves and screened biological activity of different extraction column on the animal model. I found some constituents having antipyretic, antiulcarent and antibacterial activity. In my senior year, I investigated acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibitory activity of some novel compound from the medicinal plant under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M A Mazid. I found some compound which are potential candidate to act against Alzheimer diseases as they showed a marked inhibition of acetylcholinesterase and butyl cholinesterase inhibitory activity. During these research, I got hands-on experience to work with column chromatography, HPLC, UV and IR spectroscopy. For my undergraduate project, I have studied a lot of research work about the pharmacological activity of some ethnomedicinal plant of Bangladesh and systematically organize them in a readily available and comprehensive format. I wrote a project report which was titled as a review of this topic. In the report, I had written about 200 compounds including some noble compound that has been identified having antipyretic, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-tumor activity.
My undergraduate program has been designed in such a way that every student gets a clear view of the different aspect of pharmaceutical science education. As a part of my undergraduate study, I spent a month in-plant training at Pacific Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a renowned pharmaceutical industry, where I got the chance to explore manufacturing facilities, product development, quality control, and quality assurance department. This training widened my practical knowledge about drug manufacturing and its developmental processes. Additionally, I attained a 6-month long hospital training in Dhaka Medical College & Hospital – the best medical college in Bangladesh, which enriched my knowledge about therapeutic knowledge of drug use. During my internship at Dhaka Medical College, I observed that antibiotic resistance has increased drastically among rural people. As a third world country, our public health care system is not up to the mark, which enables people to use antibiotics without proper instructions from the physician.
Retail pharmacists and chemists have played a big role in the consumption of drugs by the patient. So I did a survey project under the supervision of Mr. Sajal Kumar Saha, about the knowledge and awareness exhibited by Bangladeshi druggists and chemists about anti-biotic and antibiotic resistance and found that their knowledge and awareness about this is very limited. During this project, I have learned how to prepare and analyze survey questionnaires, use of IBM SPSS, Google pad design, google spreadsheet, Zotero and Endnote.
During my internship, I also saw a lot of people suffering from cancer. The most heart touching fact is that among other patients, I found one of my uncles. We met after 10 or 11 years but in this unfortunate circumstance. I watched him bear immense suffering while he underwent chemotherapy. I checked up on him every day at his bed but I always felt that the great pain, along with the side effects of chemotherapy, had snatched his desire to live in this world. After a grueling 3 month stays in hospital, he passed away. That incident influenced me to focus my future research in drug development and targeted novel drug delivery system focusing on cancer treatment.
Now, I am working as an executive at Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a leading pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh, for the last 8 months. I synthesized data and information from multiple sources about new drug molecule and new dosage form that has been launched or in the clinical trial and justified their feasibility in Bangladeshi market. Then, I present these data and information in a meaningful and coherent way to launch them in the Bangladeshi market. This job enables me to further expand my knowledge about new therapeutic options or about up and coming research and the new findings of drug discovery. The vast diversity of therapeutics and research on new drug development or new dosage form, targeted drug delivery deepens my desire to pursue my Ph.D. in these areas.

I wish to pursue my Ph.D. degree at the “Temple University” as it would not only provide me the opportunity to work under the supervision of renowned professor but also give me the opportunity to work in a world-class lab facility. While visiting the university webpage, I was more than amazed to find the diversity of research activities conducted at Temple University which are also perfectly matched with my research interest. I strongly believe that I have sufficient quality, motivation, and dedication to prove myself as one of the best researchers at this university. Therefore, I am looking forward to getting admission in your prestigious Ph.D. program to expand my educational pursuit my desire.
